Humidity and Seed Phrase Storage in Seoul Apartments

Seoul’s summer humidity regularly exceeds eighty percent. During onboarding and quarterly assessments, we ask clients where their seed backups live — not to see the words, but to understand the storage environment.

Common Findings

Paper envelopes stored in bathroom cabinets show foxing and edge curling within two monsoon seasons. Metal plates kept in unsealed desk drawers develop surface oxidation that does not affect readability immediately but signals poor long-term conditions. Clients who store backups in ondol-heated floor storage sometimes report brittle paper after winter drying cycles.

Recommendations We Give

Keep metal plates in sealed silica-gel pouches inside a fire-resistant container. Avoid bathrooms, exterior walls, and unventilated closets. If you use paper, laminate only after confirming your backup method allows it — some passphrase schemes require writable surfaces.

When to Reassess Storage

Any apartment move, renovation, or flood incident warrants a storage review. Our post-incident assessment includes this, but you can also request a focused consultation during your regular quarterly visit.
